TECHNOTE

What are the limitations of the Student Edition?

Several college textbooks on management science and risk analysis include Student Editions of Crystal Ball. You can view these books on the textbooks page on this Web site.

The Student Edition of Crystal Ball 2000 has no functional limitations other than time of operation (140 days from day of installation).

The Student Edition of the Crystal Ball 4.0g software has the following limitations:

  • The student can only define a maximum of six assumptions and six forecasts per model
  • The only distribution types available are normal, triangular, uniform, custom, Poisson, and exponential
  • The student can only create one pair-wise correlation per model
  • There are no overlay charts
  • Simulations are limited to 1,000 trials
  • The best fit function can only fit a maximum of 100 points to a curve
  • The word "Student" appears on all printed charts, in report titles, and in the About box
  • Special licensing language appears in the initial splash screen and in the About box
  • There is no technical support, except to answer installation questions
NOTE: Do not confuse the Student Edition available with textbooks with the fully functional academic version that Decisioneering sells for a lower cost but with an expiration date.
