Introduction
Versions of Crystal Ball 7.x starting with Crystal
Ball 7.1 support the automatic download and installation
of updates over the Internet.
Periodically, an InstallShield update dialog
appears and offers you the opportunity to check
for updates, or you can check for updates yourself
and download any new ones from the list.
Note: If you are using Crystal
Ball 7.0 or 7.0.1, you cannot check for updates
as described below until you have manually upgraded
to Crystal Ball 7.1 or later. To upgrade from
Crystal Ball 7.0 or 7.0.1, visit the Decisioneering
Web site -- www.crystalball.com
-- and click the Download link at the left side
of the window.
Checking
for Updates
To check for Crystal Ball 7.x
updates:
-
Connect to the Internet.
-
Close Excel.

7 > Check For Updates.
If no updates are present, a message appears.
If there are updates, the InstallShield Update
Service screen appears.

The Available Updates list appears.
To download the Crystal Ball update, click
Add. Then, click Next.
The Total Items Available list appears.
Click Install Now. The installation file is
downloaded as fast as your Internet connection
allows. When the file has been downloaded, the
Download Completed dialog appears.

installer launches. You can follow the instructions
in the Crystal Ball Installation and Licensing
Guide to complete the installation. Your existing
Crystal Ball license is still valid so you don't
need to activate a new license.
Update
Notes
- Excel must be closed before you can perform
the update. If the update installation stops
unexpectedly, there might be an Excel process
that is still running in the background. To
check for this:
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to display the Windows
Security dialog.
- Click the Task Manager button.
- When the Windows Task Manager appears, click
the Processes tab.
- Look in the Image Name column for Excel.exe.
- If you find it, click to select it. Then,
click the End Process button or right-click
and choose End Process.
- When there is no Excel process running,
close or minimize the Task Manager.
Now, try the installation
again. You don't need to go through the complete
download process. Just locate the downloaded file
on your hard drive and double-click it to restart
the installation.
- If you look for an update AFTER you have installed
the latest Crystal Ball 7.x
update, you might see a "Product Not Registered"
error. If this occurs, don't worry. Your Crystal
Ball installation is still valid and no
updates have been released since then.
