Real Options Analysis Toolkit,
Version 2.0 - Installation and Licensing FAQs |
|
|
| 1.
Why do I get an error message when I try to launch Real Options
Analysis Toolkit, Version 2.0? I am logged in as a power user or
limited user. To use Real Options Analysis Toolkit (ROAT),
you need to be logged in as Administrator or have administrative
privileges at all times on your local machine. If you do not,
the following error message appears (Windows 2000/Office 2000):
Error
Unable to execute
file:
C:\Program Files\Real Options Analysis 2.0\ROA Toolkit 2.0.xls
ShellExecute
failed; code 2
Other versions of Microsoft Windows might display slightly different
error messages but all have the same meaning. You must either
log in to your local machine's domain as Administrator with the
default password or have someone with administrative privileges
add you to the Administrator user group in Windows. |

I just upgraded from ROAT Version 1.0 to Version 2.0. I am logged
in with administrative privileges. Why do I have trouble starting
and using ROAT? Before you install the released version
of ROAT 2.0, you need to uninstall all previous versions of ROAT.
If you have a pre-release version of the ROAT 2.0 software, you
need to uninstall it also. To uninstall all previous versions
of ROAT, select Start in the Windows taskbar. Then, select Control
Panel > Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Settings > Control
Panel > Add/Remove Programs (Windows 2000). Scroll down to
the program or programs named Real Options Analysis Toolkit and
remove all those programs. Now, when you select Start > Programs
> Real Options Analysis 2.0 > ROA Toolkit 2.0, the current
version of ROAT should start successfully. |
|
| 3.
When I installed ROAT, I couldn't find my license key and clicked
Cancel in the license key entry dialog at the end of installation.
Several error messages appeared. Now, ROAT appears to start and
work but the results look strange and #VALUE! appears in my models.
Why is this happening? You must successfully license
ROAT without any error messages before you try to use the software.
If your first installation and licensing attempt was not successful,
select Start > Programs > Real Options Analysis 2.0 >
Uninstall ROAT 2.0. Then, locate your license key and install
and license ROAT again. |
|
| 4.
When I uninstalled ROAT, a message indicated that some elements
could not be removed but could be removed manually. What happened
and what can I do about it? This message appears when
the ROA Toolkit 2.0.xls file is open in Excel while ROAT is being
uninstalled. Be sure the ROA Toolkit 2.0.xls file and Excel are
closed, then follow the uninstallation procedures again. Everything
should be uninstalled then. |

I installed and licensed ROAT without any error messages, but when
I try to start ROAT, an error message appears and says an XLS file
cannot be found. Why does this appear and what can I do about it?
If you have not yet been set up to use Microsoft Excel on the
machine where ROAT is installed, the following message appears
when you try to start ROAT or the Real Options Analysis Functions
or examples from the Windows Start menu:
Cannot find
the file 'C:\Program Files\Real Options Analysis 2.0\ROA Toolkit
2.0.xls' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename
are correct and that all required libraries are available.
If you use Windows Explorer, this message appears:
Unable to run this command.
These messages can also appear if Quattro Pro, StarOffice, or
some other application that can read files with the .xls extension
is installed on your computer.
If this message or a similar one appears:
- Verify that you can start Microsoft Excel. If you can't, either
install Microsoft Excel or contact someone who can install it
for you.
- Double-click on My Computer on your Windows desktop.
- In the My Computer menubar, select Tools > Folder Options.
- Click on the File Types tab.
- Scroll down until the extension XLS appears.
- Click on it to select it and verify that the XLS extension
is set to open with Microsoft Excel for Windows.
- If any other application is associated with XLS, click on
the Change button and select Microsoft Excel for Windows.
- Click on OK to accept the change.

A Key Expired dialog just appeared. When I clicked on OK, the Enter
Key dialog appeared but I don't have a new license key yet. When
I clicked Cancel in the Enter Key dialog, my computer started beeping
until the Key Expired dialog appeared again. I finally had to shut
down my computer. How can I keep this from happening again?
When you first receive ROAT, it is supplied with an expiring
license key. This is so you can start using the software immediately.
If the Key Expired dialog appears when you are using ROAT with
a limited-time evaluation license, you must enter a permanent
license key to continue using ROAT. If you have already purchased
ROAT, you should have received an email message with the permanent
license key. For information on how to receive a permanent license
key, contact Decisioneering. |
|
| 7. Sometimes when I perform
super lattice calculations in a model with a large number of steps,
ROAT runs very slowly. Is this okay? It might be inconvenient
for you to wait, but yes, ROAT is working correctly. ROAT performs
very complicated analyses that could take days or even weeks to
calculate manually, so please be patient or choose fewer steps.
Two models where delays can occur are American Custom Option
with Vesting and Suboptimal Behavior and 3D Binomial American
Option. |
