Why am I getting errors about locked cells or sheets?

Crystal Ball cannot run a simulation if any assumption cell is locked or if any of the worksheets are locked. However, if you get this error message and you are sure you don't have any sheets or assumption cells locked, the problem might be merged cells.

There is a bug in Excel 97 that makes Excel sometimes think that a cell is locked if the same cell is merged on a different worksheet of the same workbook. The workaround is to check the worksheets of your workbook for merged cells in the same location as assumption cells on other worksheets. When you find such merged cells, unmerge them and try to run the simulation again.

To unmerge a cell:

  1. Select the merged cell.
  2. Select Format > Cells > Alignment.
  3. Under Text Control, uncheck Merge Cells.
  4. Click on OK.
  5. Rerun your simulation.
