EXCEL STATISTICAL PROCEDURES

Several recent articles have documented limitations in the statistical procedures in Excel (see McCullough and Wilson, "On the accuracy of statistical procedures in Microsoft Excel 97," Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, vol. 31, 1999, pp. 27-37). Specifically, the random number generator in Excel was judged to be inadequate based on a set of statistical tests for randomness.

Crystal Ball does not depend on Excel for any of its statistical calculations. In addition, the random number generator used in Crystal Ball is based on a method that has been extensively tested and described in the textbook Simulation Modeling & Analysis, 2nd Ed. by Averill Law and David Kelton.

Therefore, the limitations in Excel's statistical procedures will not affect your Crystal Ball results. For more information on the statistical procedures used in Crystal Ball, consult Appendix B of the Crystal Ball User Manual
